‘Matrix 4’: Neil Patrick Harris Lands Role in Latest Installment (Exclusive)
Neil Patrick Harris is the latest addition to the ensemble cast for the upcoming fourth installment of the “Matrix” franchise.

He joins Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be reprising their roles in the film, as well as Yahya Abdul-Mateen, who was tapped as one of the leads last week.

Plot details are currently unknown. While it was rumored a young Morpheus could appear in the movie, sources close to the film would not confirm Harris’ specific role.

Warner Bros. announced in August that a fourth “Matrix” movie is officially in the works, with Reeves and Moss returning and Lana Wachowski on board to write and direct. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film.

Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell co-wrote the script with Wachowski, who will also produce with Grant Hill. The film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020.

Amanda Seyfried Joins Gary Oldman in David Fincher’s ‘Mank’
Amanda Seyfried is set to join Netflix’s “Mank,” David Fincher’s latest biopic revolving around “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, with Gary Oldman tapped to play the titular role.

Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton, Toby Leonard Moore, Tom Burke, and Tom Pelphrey will also appear in the film.

“Mank” is based on a script by Fincher’s late father, Jack, who penned it prior to his death in 2003.

Specific plot details are vague, but sources say the story will follow Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of the script for “Citizen Kane” — which would go on to be considered one of the best films of all time — alongside director Orson Welles. Despite the “Citizen Kane’s” critical success, the script was the only part of the film to win an Oscar.

The film will also be shot in black and white,

Grease Is Still the Word: HBO Max Orders Rydell High Spinoff Series Set in the '50s
It seems like we truly can never have too much of a good thing: several months after the Grease prequel film Summer Loving was announced, HBO Max has handed out a straight-to-series order for a spinoff musical of the classic film titled Grease: Rydell High. That's right, folks - we're heading back to the hallowed halls of Rydell High, the high school at the center of all the action.

While Summer Loving will recount the terribly romantic Summer affair between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's characters, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, Rydell High will introduce viewers to a whole host of new faces. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will reimagine the original movie while still being set in the '50s and feature big musical numbers from the era. It'll explore the usual topics of high-school dramas, including the horrors of puberty and peer pressures of high school.

Sony Will Give Carnage A Villainous Love Interest In The Upcoming ‘Venom’ Sequel
If you were someone that didn’t rush out of the theater the second the credits started to roll in last year’s “Venom,” then you probably know exactly who the main villain of the sequel is going to be. The end-credits scene for the film introduced Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasaday, otherwise known as Carnage, teasing an epic battle in the forthcoming sequel. However, it appears that Harrelson won’t be alone in tormenting the title hero in “Venom 2.”

According to Deadline, Carnage will be joined by the Marvel villain known as Shriek in the upcoming “Venom 2.” While only one letter separating the two, you should definitely not confuse the evil Shriek with the adorable Shrek.

Taika Waititi: ‘Thor 4’ Could Include Breast Cancer Storyline for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster
Marvel fans are eagerly waiting to see Natalie Portman back as Jane Foster and become the female Thor in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and many are wondering how closely the film will adapt the comic book storyline that includes Jane’s battle with breast cancer.

Speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin at the “Jojo Rabbit” press junket on Saturday, director Taika Waititi said Jane’s cancer could make it into the movie.

“I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally I really love that storyline,” he said. “But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen.”

In the Marvel comics, Thor becomes unworthy to wield his magical hammer, Mjolnir, and loses his title as the Asgardian superhero. Meanwhile, his former love interest Jane

Scotty Bowers, Old Hollywood’s Sexual Matchmaker, Dies at 96
Scotty Bowers, a “sexual matchmaker” for dozens of stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood who wrote about his colorful — and sometimes unbelivable — life in his memoir “Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars,” died at his Laurel Canyon home on Sunday. He was 96.

The story of his experiences was told in the 2017 documentary “Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood,” directed by Matt Tyrnauer, who confirmed his death.

A former U.S. Marine and gas station attendant, Bowers also worked as a bartender and as a go-fer to friend such as George Cukor. But the most notable part of his life was as a helpful procurer for everyone, he claimed, from Rock Hudson, Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis and Elsa Lanchester to Cary Grant, Randolph Scott, Spencer Tracy and Charles Laughton.

Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund Winners Announced

The Tribeca Film Institute and Gucci announced on Tuesday this year’s recipients for the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund.

Now in its 12th year, Tfi and Gucci have awarded $140,000 in grant funding, covered by Gucci, to support nine documentaries highlighting domestic and international matters, with a focus on female-led stories and filmmakers. The funding will cover the production and post-production of a number of the winning documentarians, as well as strategic campaign work and distribution efforts for two films.

“These filmmakers are highlighting urgent social issues through strong character-led stories — from a young, stateless woman fleeing violence and revealing the complex geo-history and politics between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, to a brother and sister fighting on opposite ends of the Libyan revolution, and a kaleidoscopic look into the immediate aftermath of the 2016 U.S. presidential election,” said Monika Navarro, senior director of programs at Tribeca Film Institute, in a statement.

Netflix Q3 Earnings Preview: Will the Streaming Giant Rebound From Its Rocky Summer?

              • The Wrap
Wednesday’s third-quarter earnings report comes at a critical time for Netflix, only weeks before deep-pocketed competitors in Disney and Apple enter the streaming battle. The streaming giant and its shareholders have been through a wild 2019. Netflix’s stock, after rocketing up more than 40% during the first half of the year, has dropped 25% since July, when the company reported underwhelming subscriber growth — punctuated by a decline in U.S. subscribers for the first time since it separated its DVD and streaming business in 2011. Despite the growing pressure on Netflix, analysts are cautiously optimistic it’ll hit its internal projections of about 7 million new subscribers. Ampere Analysis research director Richard Broughton said he’s anticipating a “bounce back” quarter from Netflix, thanks to the return of several prominent Netflix originals, including “Stranger Things” and “13 Reasons Why,” during Q3. Netflix announced “Stranger Things” Season 3 set a company record when it was

Apple Takes Down Viral ‘Countdown’ Horror App, Stx Brings It to Android Instead

An app that can predict the date and time of your death may have been too much for Apple to stomach: The iPhone maker removed a viral app inspired by the upcoming horror movie “Countdown” a few days ago, putting an end to its meteoric rise. Before its removal, “Countdown” had surpassed TikTok, YouTube and Instagram to become the No. 1 free app on the App Store.

Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment; the app’s developer told Variety that the iPhone maker’s stated reason for removing the app had been that it was “too minimalistic.”

The “Countdown” app was inspired by “Countdown,” Stx Films’ horror movie starring Elizabeth Lail. In the movie, a mysterious app predicts the date and time of death of its users — and anyone who installs it actually does die at the predicted time, under mysterious circumstances. As the movie’s promotional campaign puts it: “Death?
